Welcome to Beacon Hill, one of the most iconic and visually arresting neighborhoods in all of the United States. As you stand here, you are walking on land that once consisted of three distinct peaks known to early seventeenth-century settlers as the Tri-mountain. The name we use today, Beacon Hill, comes from a tall wooden beacon erected atop the highest peak in sixteen hundred and thirty-five to warn the Massachusetts Bay Colony of approaching danger. Over the centuries, those three peaks were leveled to create the elegant residential slopes you see now. This neighborhood functions as a living museum, where the charm of the nineteenth century is preserved in every red brick and iron railing.
